GROVETOWN, GEORGIA MAN KILLED AFTER SHOWDOWN WITH COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT

On October 3rd, a caller reported a man who was making terroristic threats around 7 p.m., the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office confronted the suspect in Grovetown, at the 5000 block of Broad Oak Drive.

The man was identified as 61-year old, Ronald Audette; he had made terroristic threats and mentioned his desire to commit a mass shooting during October 3rd – October 5th. Several events were scheduled in Columbia County, including high school football events and the Oliver Hardy Festival.

Officers contacted Mr. Audette via cell phone but he demanded that they leave. He then exited the house, equipped with a revolver; after several commands to drop the weapon, he was fired upon and by three Columbia County Sheriff Deputies. Mr. Audette died during surgery at Doctors Hospital.

The deputies are currently on paid leave. According to the Augusta Chronicle, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department do not utilize bodycams.
